Wonder Woman director has already known where she wants a sequel to take place!
More than 75 years after Wonder Woman appeared in the comics for the first time, the character finally made her solo movie debut, arriving in theaters over the weekend to critical acclaim and more than $100 million at the domestic box office. There would be a huge surprise if there weren't a sequel being planned! Nothing official has yet been announced, but director Patty Jenkins is ready to take up the shield and lasso once more.
In an interview with EW, Jenkins confirmed the sequel’s setting, saying Wonder Woman 2 will unfold in America, far away from Themyscira, as well as London and the European locales she traveled to in the first film. Not surprisingly she didn’t go into details but she did tell them:
The story will take place in the U.S., which I think is right.“She’s Wonder Woman. She’s got to come to America. It’s time.
Then I realized that Wonder Woman 2 is its own great movie. I made Wonder Woman. Now I want to make Wonder Woman 2. It’s a beautiful story to tell, an important time to tell it and with people that I love.
Both Jenkins and Gal Gadot are already on board for the sequel, according to THR:
And if it all goes according to plan, Jenkins is more than ready to return to the character for a contemporary-set Wonder Woman sequel (she and Gadot are contractually committed to a second film).
Warner Bros. declined to comment on its future plans for the franchise, but considering this film’s strong reception from fans and critics alike, betting on the director for a sequel would be the smartest approach. After all, the film grossed more than $200 million worldwide in its opening frame and delivered the DCEU it’s first genuine hit. Audiences and critics have made it clear that they love Wonder Woman and want to see more of her apart from her upcoming appearance in Justice League in November.
