With Kong: Skull Island rescued at the box office by China, Godzilla: King of the Monsters adds another Chinese actress.

Zhang Ziyi (章子怡) will be back to tackle Hollywood with her upcoming appearance in the 2019 blockbuster Godzilla: King of Monsters, also known as Godzilla 2. But the Chinese actress best known for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Memoirs of a Geisha won’t just be playing monster fodder. Her role will reportedly figure prominently in the MonsterVerse, with Ziyi set to appear in future monster movie installments. According to Variety, Ziyi's character "is a significant figure within the covert Monarch organization established in that film."

“Krampus” helmer Michael Dougherty is directing from a script by Dougherty and Zach Shields. Alex Garcia will oversee the tentpole for Legendary. The actress will then appear in other monster installments, including Godzilla vs Kong, as her character is a key figure in the covert, creature-cataloging Monarch organization established in those films.

Kyle Chandler, Vera Farmiga (Up in the Air, The Conjuring, Bates Motel), and Millie Bobby Brown (Stranger Things) will star in the Godzilla: King of Monsters film as a father, mother, and daughter. Other new cast members include: O'Shea Jackson Jr. (Straight Outta Compton), Aisha Hinds (Underground, Shots Fired, Under the Dome), Anthony Ramos (White Girl, Hamilton musical), Charles Dance (Game of Thrones), Thomas Middleditch (Silicon Valley). Ken Watanabe (The Last Samurai, Letters from Iwo Jima, Inception) and Sally Hawkins (Paddington, Blue Jasmine) are returning from the 2014 film.

Zhang Ziyi received Golden Globe award, BAFTA award and Screen Actors Guild award nominations for her role in Memoirs of a Geisha, and a BAFTA nomination for House of Flying Daggers and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. She’s also known for her work in films like Hero, 2046 and The Grandmaster. Her other appearances are in Rush Hour 2, and has produced the films Sophie’s Revenge, My Lucky Star and Oh My God.

Godzilla: King of the Monsters will hit theaters on March 22, 2019.
