Don't expect X-23 to cameo in future X-Men movies!
You loved Laura, a.k.a. X-23, in Logan, eh? After all, who didn’t adore the character played by Dafne Keen in the final Hugh Jackman Wolverine film? However, don’t expect to see her in future X-men movies. Producer Hutch Parker told Comic Con fans this week that current conversations regarding more screen time with Laura are leaning more towards a solo adventure as opposed to fitting her into one of the already planned other spin-off films like “The New Mutants”.
"Yeah, I mean, look — I don’t know definitively, but in terms of the stuff we’ve been talking about, it’s not sort of slipping her into the background of another movie. It’s looking at that character, which is a great character and has a pretty interesting run within the comics, to find a story that we think she could carry or certainly be kind of majorly significant within."
"That’s the only kind of thing that Jim [Mangold, director] as a storyteller, a filmmaker… that’s the way his sort of process works. And the way his mind works in terms of what he would aspire to. Which isn’t to say that the studio couldn’t have a conversation about something else, but the one that we’ve been kind of discussing loosely and kicking around is more likely to be its own film."
In an interview, the Wolverine actor Hugh Jackman said that “I think one thing we’ve learned: when X-Men started, it was pretty revolutionary. Like the comic book itself, I think there was an element of breaking conventions, of opening up in the concentration camp with a character, was not what people expected.”
In the near future, a weary Logan (Hugh Jackman) cares for an ailing Professor X (Patrick Stewart) at a remote outpost on the Mexican border. His plan to hide from the outside world gets upended when he meets a young mutant (Dafne Keen) who is very much like him. Logan must now protect the girl and battle the dark forces that want to capture her.
The film is directed by James Mangold, who co-wrote the screenplay with Scott Frank and Michael Green, from a story by Mangold. Hugh Jackman stars as Logan in his final portrayal of the character after having played the role for 17 years, with Patrick Stewart co-starring as Charles Xavier. Richard E. Grant, Boyd Holbrook, Stephen Merchant, Dafne Keen (in her first film role), Eriq La Salle, Elise Neal and Elizabeth Rodriguez are all featured in supporting roles.
