Spider-Man will feature in the fourth Avengers movie, Marvel’s boss has confirmed.
Spider-Man: Homecoming hasn’t even hit the big screen as yet but talks surrounding his future appearance with The Avengers has been doing the rounds since his appearance in Captain America: Civil War last year. During a recent press gathering, the president of Marvel Studios made it perfectly clear the company still plenty of plans in store for the web-slinging hero.
Marvel CEO Kevin Feige confirmed that the deal with Sony currently will allow for Spider-Man to be part of the MCU for the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming, as well as a sequel that is already slated for July 5. 2019. He already appeared in Captain America: Civil War and that, along with the next two Avengers movies, is as far as the deal extends with Sony.
Here is what Feige had to say about it.
"That's as far as it goes for now."
Another encouraging sign is that Tom Holland has hinted that plans were in the works for a Harry Potter-esque series of Spider-Man: Homecoming sequels to explore Peter Parker's school years.
"You know those discussions all happen behind closed doors with the creatives and I'm only brought into the process much later, when we have a script and I can sort of write little notes on what I'd like to happen," Holland explained.
"But I think that is the overall plan, I think the Harry Potter movies are a perfect example, they worked so well. I'm such a huge fan, as are billions of people, so why not follow that perfect formula? And I think we can do something really exciting with that."
“Spider-Man: Homecoming” is set for a release on July 6, 2017. Holland as the titular character is joined by Robert Downey Jr., who reprises his role as the iconic Iron Man. Portraying Peter’s best friend Ned is Jacob Batalon, while actress and singer Zendaya plays Peter’s schoolmate Michelle. Meanwhile, the antagonist of the film, Vulture, is portrayed by Golden Globe Award winner Michael Keaton.
As per CinemaBlend, “Avengers 4” was originally referred to as “Avengers: Infinity War Part 2,” though this idea was later scrapped by the directors. Several stars in the MCU will be returning to make up the ensemble cast, including Chris Evans, Elizabeth Olsen, Benedict Cumberbatch and Samuel L. Jackson. It is slated to hit theatres in 2019.
