X-Force Is Still Happening Despite Disney Deal

Drew Goddard is still attached to direct and write X-Force despite Disney’s take over of 20th Century Fox.

The future of the X-Men franchise is totally up in the air at the moment due to the recent Disney acquisition of 21st Century Fox, a deal which will require well over a year before being fully completed. But it seems like X-Force is still safe! According to Discussing, Drew Goddard (The Cabin in the Woods) is still slated to write and direct X-Force and that the movie is currently in development, which means that Goddard is still busy writing the script. It was reported back in September that Goddard was taking over the project from Jeff Wadlow and starting from scratch. For those that don’t know, X-Force is a revamped version of the New Mutants that takes on mutant enemies in a much more militaristic fashion than the X-Men. The team is typically led by Nathan Summers, aka Cable, who will be played by Josh Brolin in David Leitch’s Deadpool 2 this coming June, with the actor already scheduled to reprise his role in Fox’s X-Force film.

Goddard, who’s known for his work on shows such as Alias and LOST, as well as films such as Cloverfield, The Martian, and World War Z, already has a working relationship with Disney through Marvel TV. In addition to scripting one episode of Marvel’s The Defenders, Goddard created Marvel’s Daredevil for Netflix back in 2015 and continues to oversee production as an executive producer.

Disney would be silly not to do such a thing, especially since we've seen the explosive success of Deadpool and Logan, which have led to a new gritty type of comic book movies being made in the R-rated realm. In the meantime, Marvel fans can rest easy in knowing that the X-Force movie is still on track.
