Taissa Farmiga is following in the footsteps of her older sister Vera Farmiga.
The Nun, the much-awaited spinoff from The Conjuring, is taking shape and we now have our lead actress. American Horror Story's Taissa Farmiga will be playing the title character. Yep, the same Taissa whose sister Vera Farmiga stars in The Conjuring. She'll appear as the young and rather creepy nun opposite Demián Bichir in director Corin Hardy's movie (via Deadline).
The Nun is the second spinoff from The Conjuring after Annabelle. The demon nun came to life in “The Conjuring 2” from a painting by Patrick Wilson’s paranormal investigator Ed Warren and later attacked Vera Farmiga’s Lorraine Warren.
“The Conjuring 2” deals with the 1977 case of demonic possession of an 11-year-old British girl, played by Madison Wolfe.
New Line has already successfully spun off 2014’s “Annabelle” from the demonic doll from 2013’s “The Conjuring.” “Annabelle” was a massive hit with $256 million worldwide on a $6 million budget, with a sequel set for an August release. “The Conjuring” and “The Conjuring 2” each grossed $320 million worldwide.
Scripted by Gary Dauberman and James Wan, and produced by Wan and Peter Safran, the film gives front-and-center treatment to the demonic nun who menaced Vera Farmiga’s character throughout The Conjuring 2. Dauberman and Todd Williams are exec producers.
Taissa Farmiga is in production on What They Had, which stars Michael Shannon and Hilary Swank, and recently was in the Warren Beatty-directed Rules Don’t Apply and in the Blumhouse revenge thriller In a Valley of Violence. She is repped by ICM Partners and Anonymous Content.
The Nun is appropriately scheduled for release on Friday the 13th, in July 2018, so mark your calendars now!
