Finn And Poe's Relationship Continues To Blossom In Star Wars 8

Since their bromance's heavy appearance in The Force Awakens, fans immediately embraced the idea of Finn and Poe Dameron as Star Wars' official new couple.

Will the bromance between Poe Dameron and Finn transition into a full-blown romance? The duo were one of the highlights of The Force Awakens, with shippers quickly pairing up the former Stormtrooper and hunky Rebel pilot. But Poe/Finn always felt like a plausible relationship, with rumors that it’d be made official when Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson re-tweeted fan-art of the pair happily in love.

A further hint has now been dropped during the Star Wars Celebration panel for The Last Jedi, when John Boyega was asked what developments in their relationship we’d see in Episode VIII. He responded with, “Absolutely, their relationship continues to blossom. Poe’s my boy. There’s always a new adventure for them to go on.”

He added: “ In the Last Jedi, it’s a test for all the characters, but specifically for Finn, he wants to find his place now.”

Although the comments don’t give much away about the direction either character will be headed in The Last Jedi – the actors will have been strictly briefed so as to not reveal the slightest spoiler – the quote does at least suggest that the duo will share more screen time in the forthcoming movie. The tease of “another adventure” also may hint at the possibility that the duo will be working as a team on Resistance missions in Episode VIII. The Force Awakens circumvented convention when it revealed that Rey was actually the new trilogy’s lead Jedi, rather than Finn as suggested in the promo material. With the ex-Stormtrooper seemingly off lightsaber duty, working with the Resistance could be the most obvious path for him and who better to ride with than his best pal Poe.

Back in 2016, Boyega told the Radio Times that, though he thought of Finn and Poe as a “bromance” during The Force Awakens, he'd realized that actually, Star Wars has always been full of surprises, and, in turn, that a Finn and Poe romance could happen:

But as far as I’m concerned, when J.J. [Abrams] sat us down to go through the script, it was a bromance. But now I’m learning what Mark Hamill said before when he didn’t know that Darth Vader was Luke’s father: you never know what they’re going to pull. I’m looking at the director Rian [Johnson] closely so he can get me involved early, so I can prepare myself. So who knows?
