Will Ferrell is teaming up with Justice League and Aquaman star Jason Momoa for a new movie.
According to Deadline, Paramount Pictures has just purchased an untitled comedy pitch intended to star Will Ferrell (Daddy’s Home, Get Hard) and Jason Momoa (Game of Thrones, Justice League). The project, which is described as “Galaxy Quest meets Ocean’s Eleven,” will be produced by Nick Stoller as well as Ferrell’s company Gary Sanchez. The script was pitched by Andy Mogel and Jarrad Paul.
Ferrell will play a washed-up TV star who will reunite with the actor (played by Momoa) who played his son on the TV show, and has since become massive movie star. No more details have been confirmed beyond those, reports Variety.
Momoa and Ferrell are very busy in their own rights. Will Ferrell has been cast to play an ageing E-Sports competitor. The film will see Ferrell playing a past-his-prime member of an eSports team, in a sport where players usually retire in their 20s due to slowing hand-eye coordination. The comedy actor also recently reprised his amazing George W. Bush impression on American TV to take shots at Donald Trump. Jason Momoa, however, is incredibly busy on the set of ‘Aquaman’ as it was confirmed this week that the ‘Justice League’ member’s solo film has begun shooting in Australia.
Mogel and Paul are the creators of the critically-acclaimed Rob Lowe-headlined comedy TV series The Grinder, a show that revolves around a former television star who aims to turn over a new leaf, similar to this Ferrell and Momoa collaboration. They also wrote and directed The D Train starring Jack Black and James Marsden. Stoller recently directed both “Neighbors” and the animated comedy “Storks.” He also co-created and executive produced “The Carmichael Show” for NBC. Gary Sanchez’s producing credits include “Get Hard,” “The Other Guys,” “Step Brothers,” “Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues,” and “Daddy’s Home,” along with the TV series “Eastbound & Down.”
