Mark Wahlberg has outmuscled Dwayne Johnson to become Hollywood's highest-paid actor.

Despite the fact that "Transformers" was the lowest-grossing film in the franchise to date, and that it scored a measly 15% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, Wahlberg earns a fixed compensation, so he was set to earn big no matter what happened at the box office. According to Forbes, Wahlberg’s earnings from June 1, 2016, to June 1, 2017, have made him the highest paid actor, having earned $68 million pre-tax in the publication’s 12-month scoring period. The "Ted" actor, who also has an endorsement deal with AT&T, was No. 12 last year, with $30 million.

Once known as the rapper Marky Mark, Wahlberg is without question the most successful musician-turned-actor working today, having amassed dozens of film credits since his debut in the Danny DeVito comedy drama Renaissance Man in 1994.

Along the way, Wahlberg has been willing to take risks and act in a slate of different genres, from fictional drama (Boogie Nights, Rock Star) and comedy (Ted, Daddy’s Home) to crime thrillers (The Departed, We Own the Night) and action/adventures (Three Kings, Shooter), as well as real-life dramas (The Fighter, Lone Survivor, Patriot’s Day) and sci-fi action (Transformers: Age of Extinction, Transformers: The Last Knight ).

Last year’s top-ranked star, Dwayne Johnson, is in second place with $65m after leading the big screen adaptation of Baywatch. That film also underwhelmed, making just $58m in the US. Johnson also makes an estimated $650,000 an episode for his HBO comedy Ballers. He’ll next be seen in adventure reboot Jumanji and Rampage, an action adventure based on a video game.

His Fast & Furious 8 co-star, Vin Diesel, placed third with $54.5m and Adam Sandler was close behind, making $50.5m, thanks to his deal with Netflix. Marvel stars Robert Downey Jr, Chris Hemsworth, Samuel L Jackson, Jeremy Renner, Chris Pratt and Chris Evans are also featured on the list.

The top 10 actors banked a cumulative $488.5 million, nearly three times the $172.5 million combined total of the 10 top-earning women.

All the data is from between June 1, 2016, and June 1, 2017, before fees and taxes.
