Actor James Cromwell has revealed that Jurassic World 2 will tie directly back to Steven Spielberg’s classic sci-fi adventure thriller Jurassic Park.

With a domestic gross of $652 million and another $1.018 billion in foreign territories for a whopping worldwide box office tally of $1.6 billion in 2015, there was no question that plenty of life was still left in the dinosaur saga created by director Steven Spielberg in 1993. Director J.A. Boyana and star Chris Pratt have both previously stated that the sequel will be much darker than Jurassic World and a little more like the first Jurassic Park. And now, in an interview with Larry King Now, James Cromwell elaborated about his role as Benjamin Lockwood in the film. Cromwell also sheds some more light on his character's relationship with John Hammond, the creator of Jurassic Park. Here's what the actor had to say below.

“The character Richard Attenborough played, I’m his partner, Benjamin Lockwood. We developed the technology of being able to clone the genes. And so I’m trying to deal with the blowback from what we have done.”

Not only will the film be hearkening back to the original blockbuster with Cromwell, Jeff Goldblum who played the self-professed “chaotician” Dr. Ian Malcolm in Jurassic Park was recently announced to be returning for the sequel and BD Wong will once again appear as Dr. Henry Wu. Based on the events of Jurassic World, it sounds like Cromwell’s Lockwood will have a bone to pick with B.D. Wong’s Dr. Wu, who helped create the Indominus Rex that essentially destroyed the fully-functional park.

In addition, director J.A. Bayona will also be bringing back the use of animatronics and practical effects which could be a return to form for the dino-rampaging franchise.

The increasing list of ties to the first film are certainly adding to the excitement for Jurassic World 2, which was already set at fever pitch. Plot details on the upcoming sequel are still under wraps but both Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard will be returning as Owen and Claire as the franchise continues the storyline of weaponized dinosaurs introduced in Jurassic World. The sequel has also added Toby Jones, Justice Smith, Rafe Spall, Ted Levine, Daniella Pineda, and Geraldine Chaplin into the mix.

Jurassic World 2 is slated to hit theaters on June 22, 2018.
