Idris Elba has admitted Daniel Craig and his team have been “very clever” seemingly holding out for a bigger payday before returning to 007.

The next 007 film, Bond 25, is slowly coming together, with a 2019 release date now set. And, although it has yet to be made official, it’s widely assumed that Daniel Craig will be returning to the role one last time, despite previous statements making it look like he was done working for MI6.

The “Dark Tower” star was one of the actors linked to the role when it looked as though the 49-year-old star might hang up his tuxedo. Speaking to Kyle and Jackie O on Friday, to promote his latest film Dark Tower, Idris was soon drawn on the Bond subject by Kyle Sandilands.

“The other guy said he'd rather kill himself than be 007 and they offered him $150 million and then he was like "oh well, I've probably got another one in me,"' Kyle explained.

'”People weren't happy about that,” Kyle continued. “They were ringing up here saying it should've been you but you can't comment or you come across looking like a w***er and that's not what you're like, you're a decent bloke.”

Wanting to remain diplomatic, Idris praised Daniel for his take on the iconic character as well as his business nouse.

“Daniel Craig is a great Bond,” Idris responded.

“I think honestly he and his business team are very clever - "no I won't do it. $150million? Yes I will do it,” he added which elicited laughter from both Kyle and Jackie O.

Daniel has reportedly been offered $150 million take on the part a further two times. In 2015, the actor was asked if he’d be back in the iconic role again after finishing a difficult ‘Spectre’ shoot and replied: “I’d rather … slash my wrists. No, not at the moment. Not at all. That’s fine. I’m over it at the moment. We’re done. All I want to do is move on.”

The star, who played 007 in ‘Casino Royale’, ‘Quantum of Solace’, ‘Skyfall’ and ‘Spectre’, openly admitted the only reason he would portray the character for a fifth time would be for a lot of money.

Elba is currently promoting his own new movie, The Dark Tower, which has been bombarded with negative reviews. But speaking on why he signed up for the part, he told US TV’s Seth Meyers that he was a fan of Stephen King’s work.

“I’m a fan of Stephen King,” he said. “He’s a little dark! The Shining, I was a fan of.

“I wanted to be in a blockbuster, I wanted to play a big hero in a film. And who better for than Stephen King?”
