Actor Samuel L. Jackson has confirmed that his next confirmed appearance won’t be until Captain Marvel.
Yahoo Movies UK spoke with Jackson while promoting The Hitman’s Bodyguard and they asked him about his upcoming MCU schedule. L. Jackson then confirmed that despite previous expectations that he’d be appearing in the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4, the former director of SHIELD’s next confirmed appearance won’t be until Captain Marvel.
"I wasn't in the 'superhero argument' movie, I'm not in Avengers 3 and 4. They're shooting them now and they haven't called me yet," Jackson said, referring to the lack of Nick Fury in Captain America: Civil War.
According to the interview, Nick Fury won’t be appearing in the upcoming Black Panther movie, either. The movie, taking place in the fictional African country of Wakanda and featuring a majority African or African-American cast, is the first MCU film to center around a black superhero.
"They wouldn't let me go to Black Panther-ville, so it's kinda like how you gonna make a black Marvel movie and not let Nick Fury show up in it?" Jackson said.
This isn't the first instance in which Jackson has expressed his frustrations with not appearing in Black Panther, as he previously vented to Complex about the situation. "I asked [Marvel], 'So you're doing Black Panther and the only black character in the Marvel Universe is not showing up?' And they're like, 'Nick Fury is not in Wakanda!'" Jackson said. "How can [Nick Fury] not know the other black superhero on the planet? How the h*** does that work? But they just said, 'No you're not in that one.'"
In the MCU, Nick Fury has been in hiding since ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ and he briefly resurfaced in ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’. If Jackson is to be believed, the next time his character will appear in the MCU is in 2019’s 1990s-set ‘Captain Marvel’, which will act as a prequel to the main MCU-narrative (excluding ‘The First Avenger’).
