Don’t expect to see more of the same from Diana and the Amazons.
Although Wonder Woman proved to be a massive success both critically and financially, director Patty Jenkins has decided to push the bar even higher with Wonder Woman 2, not copying the winning formula of the first movie. Speaking with Entertainment Tonight Canada, Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins promised that the forthcoming sequel pic will be a completely new experience compared to its DC Comics-based predecessor.
"We're actually making a totally different film with a lot of the same… things that we love," Jenkins explained, noting that the project is "its own movie entirely" rather than a straightforward follow-up. "It's not [Wonder Woman] 'two' to us. It's an entirely new adventure together that we couldn't be luckier [to do]," said the filmmaker.
Jenkins also touched on the possibility of TV’s Wonder Woman (Lynda Carter) making a cameo in Wonder Woman 2, after she was unable to do so in the first installment:
“We’ll see. Lynda is one of the dearest people to us, has been a great mentor and dear friend. And we actually desperately tried to get her in the first one and we had the scheduling that couldn’t work, so she’s always been a part of our Wonder Woman family. We won’t say anything yet, but we certainly, there’s no lack of trying.”
Not only was Carter on hand at the premiere for Wonder Woman last year to support Jenkins and star Gal Gadot, she also came to the film’s defense after Titanic director James Cameron criticized the film. Despite scheduling conflicts making it difficult for Carter to appear alongside Gadot on the big screen, the actress has dipped her toes back into the DC universe as President Olivia Marsdin on The CW’s Supergirl.
Wonder Woman 2 arrives in theaters on November 1, 2019 and stars Gal Gadot.
