Charlize Theron Was Offered A Role in Wonder Woman

But the Monster reunion didn't happen as we all know!
Long before Patty Jenkins teamed up with Gal Gadot to create Wonder Woman, the director partnered up with actress Charlize Theron to make Monster, a crime caper based on the true story of serial killer Aileen Wuornos. Theron’s performance earned a clean sweep come award season, with the role garnering her best actress wins at the Oscars, Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild Awards. Theron was a guest on The Howard Stern Show on Wednesday, and the topic of Monster and Patty Jenkins came up. Stern mistakenly thought that Theron reteamed with Jenkins for Wonder Woman, and that’s when she revealed that she turned down a role in the superhero movie.
“No, I’m not in Wonder Woman,” Theron said, and revealed that Patty Jenkins did ask her to be a part of it. “We’re friends. I think the world of her. We have a mutual respect for each other. She did come to me, and at the time I was either working on something or I don’t know. There was a reason I couldn’t do it.”
Stern admitted that he was thinking of Robin Wright (who played Antiope) when he stated that he thought Theron was in Wonder Woman, and that’s our best guess as the role that Theron ended up turning down.
Unfortunately, things just didn't work out for Charlize Theron and Wonder Woman, but there is a silver lining. Patty Jenkins is currently writing the sequel to her massively successful superhero flick, so maybe there's a new role in there for Patty's old pal Charlize. Current rumors have the film possibly set to arrive in the summer of 2020. More news on the sequel’s status is expected to surface during Comic-Con International, so stay tuned for developing updates now that the expo is in full swing.
Charlize will shortly be seen back in action movie Atomic Blonde, which is out on July 28 in the US and August 9 in the US.
