Legendary composer Alan Silvestri had some very encouraging words for Avengers: Infinity War at a recent awards show.
Silvestri accepted the Icon Award at the BMI Film, TV and Visual Media Awards on Wednesday night in Beverly Hills, as recognition for the veteran composer’s prolific career filled with memorable work. During his acceptance speech, Silvestri, who is composing music for the movie, said that next year’s Avengers: Infinity War is “everything we could have hoped for” after having seen early footage from the film.
“I’m still interested in music. I’m still smitten by the development of technology in our business, and what it has provided in terms of possibilities to find new sounds and new ways to bring organized musical content to our work. I’m still enthusiastic. All the elements of film composing are still fascinating and motivating for me.”
That’s certainly high praise and reassuring to hear, and it’s by no means the first time that Infinity War has been placed in a league of its own, either, after co-director Joe Russo claimed the upcoming sequel will usher in an “event like no one has ever seen on film before.”
Infinity War will be far from Silvestri’s first foray into action movies. In addition to the Avengers and Captain America scores, he composed the music for G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, The Mummy Returns, and all three Night at the Museum movies. He is best known, however, as a longtime collaborator with famed director Robert Zemeckis; he created the iconic Back to the Future theme and was nominated for Academy Awards for his work on Forrest Gump and The Polar Express.
Avengers: Infinity War is described by Marvel Studios as the culmination of everything in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since Iron Man in 2008. The movie is filming now under directors Anthony and Joe Russo, from a screenplay by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.
The expansive confirmed cast includes Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Holland, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bethany, Sebastian Stan, Benedict Cumberbatch, Benedict Wong, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Karen Gillan, Vin Diesel, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Pom Klementieff, and Josh Brolin as the villain Thanos. Avengers: Infinity War and its as-yet-untitled sequel are filming back-to-back for a May 4, 2018 and May 3, 2019 release, respectively.
