Michael Beach has joined the cast of James Wan‘s Aquaman as a high-seas hijacker named Jesse Kane.
Aquaman is already a few weeks into filming down in Australia, and its set is about to get a bit more crowded. A new report has just confirmed the DC Film has officially brought Michael Beach on as a cast member. Warner Bros says Beach will play Jesse Kane, part of a group of high-seas hijackers who has a fateful interaction with Aquaman. But fans have been speculating that Beach is taking on the role of father to Abdul-Mateen II’s Black Manta, after Abdul-Mateen II himself posted a photo with Beach last month on his Twitter from Australia, where Aquaman was in production.
“Aquaman” is based on the DC Comics character who’s king of Atlantis, born half-human as Arthur Curry and half-Atlantean. He was first introduced in the early 1940s. Momoa made his debut as Aquaman last year in a cameo in “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” and will reprise that role later this year in “Justice League.”
The Aquaman cast also includes Amber Heard as Mera, Willem Dafoe as Nuidis Vulko, Temuera Morrison as Tom Curry; Dolph Lundgren as Nereus, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, Ludi Lin as Murk, Patrick Wilson as Orm/Ocean Master and Academy Award winner Nicole Kidman as Atlanna.
Directed by James Wan from a script by Will Beall, Geoff Johns and Wan, the film is being produced by Peter Safran, with Zack Snyder, Deborah Snyder, Rob Cowan, Jon Berg and Geoff Johns serving as executive producers. Aquaman will hit theaters December 21, 2018.
Beach recently starred in Lionsgate’s “Patriots Day.” TV credits include “Third Watch,” “ER,” “Sons of Anarchy” along with feature films “Waiting to Exhale,” “One False Move,” “True Romance,” “A Family Thing,” “Soul Food,” and Robert Altman’s “Short Cuts.”
