The 'La La Land' filmmaker is attached to direct the musical drama, which is being shopped to cable and streaming outlets.

Fresh off his trophy-snatching spectacular La La Land, Chazelle has signed on to helm the forthcoming musical drama The Eddy. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the project focuses on a club in “contemporary multicultural Paris” where the owner and house band must wrestle with the volatile city outside their doors.

Jack Thorne, who recently wrote the play Harry Potter And The Cursed Child with J.K. Rowling, will write the project. Thorne is known for co-writing the This Is England spin-off series with Shane Meadows and creating the supernatural BBC show The Fades. He's also written for the hit teen drama Skins and the original British version of Shameless. Grammy-winning songwriter and producer Glen Ballard, best known for co-writing Alanis Morissette’s Jagged Little Pill and Michael Jackson’s Man In The Mirror, and Six Feet Under showrunner Alan Poul are attached as executive producers.

In making a move to TV, Chazelle follows in the footsteps of many A-list actors and directors, including, most recently, fellow best director nominee Barry Jenkins, who after the "Moonlight" win, went on to adapt the novel "Underground Railroad" by Colson Whitehead into a series for Amazon.

At 32, Chazelle became the youngest best director Oscar winner in history when he took home the trophy in February for his modern-day musical starring Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling. The Lionsgate film also made a strong profit for the studio, grossing $150 million at the domestic box office and over $280 million internationally. Chazelle, who has reunited with "La La Land" lead Ryan Gosling to direct him in the Neil Armstrong film "First Man," received his first Oscar nomination (best adapted screenplay) in 2015 for "Whiplash." His script for "The Claim," a mystery, was also picked up recently and is set to be released in 2018.

According to THR sources, “The Eddy” is coming together quickly and is being packaged to cable and streaming outlets.
