7 Animated Movies You Can't Miss If You're a Fan of Ghost In The Shell

1. Akira

Kaneda is a bike gang leader whose close friend Tetsuo gets involved in a government secret project known as Akira. On his way to save Tetsuo, Kaneda runs into a group of anti-government activists, greedy politicians, irresponsible scientists and a powerful military leader. The confrontation sparks off Tetsuo's supernatural power leading to bloody death, a coup attempt and the final battle in Tokyo Olympiad where Akira's secrets were buried 30 years ago.

 

2. Metropolis

A future society, where humans and robots co-exist. Amidst the chaos created by anti-robot factions, detective Shunsaku Ban and his sidekick Ken-ichi are searching for rebel scientist Dr. Laughton, to arrest him and seize his latest creation, a beautiful young girl named Tima. When they locate them, Shunsaku soon realizes that the eccentric scientist is protected by a powerful man and his fierce desire to reclaim a tragic figure from his past and therefore is beyond their reach.

 

3. Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade

The movie "Jin-Roh" is about those in society who are predators among prey. But these "beasts" never bother to change their shape; like Red Riding Hood's wolf, they merely drape themselves with human clothes that do not even disguise the eyes, teeth and claws of a killer. Society rightly fears them. In "Jin-Roh," the Capital Police are themselves hunted, marked for elimination as a force by their own government, and by a public eager to forget the past.

 

4. Patlabor 2

A Japanese police unit who use giant anthropomorphic robots (called Labors) is caught up in a political struggle between the civilian authorities and the military when a terrorist act is blamed on an Air Force jet. With the aid of a government agent, the team gets close to a terrorist leader to stop things from going out of control when after the military is impelled to impose martial law.

 

5. Neon Genesis Evangelion

Evangelion is an apocalyptic anime, set in a futuristic Tokyo fifteen years after a worldwide cataclysm. The story centers on Shinji, a teenage boy who is recruited by his father into the shadowy organization NERV to pilot a giant bio-machine mecha called an Evangelion in combat against monstrous beings known as Angels. The series explores the experiences and emotions of Evangelion pilots and members of NERV as they attempt to prevent another catastrophe.

 

6. Appleseed

Deunan Knute (Ai Kobayashi) is a female warrior who survives the Global War. When she meets her old love, Briareos Hecatonchires (Jûrôta Kosugi), she finds that he has become a cyborg due to his injuries from the war. Deunan soon learns that a new race of cyborgs called Bioroids have been created in the peaceful city of Olympus. However, Deunan also discovers that something is sabotaging the Bioroids, causing their lives to be very short, so she dedicates herself to finding out the cause.

 

7. Farewell to Space Battleship Yamato

Susumu Kodai and Yuki Mori's wedding plans are postponed when the Yamato crew must report to take on another threat from the stars. A new enemy has harnessed a comet and is using its terrible power to unleash destruction upon its rivals and inferiors... which are in fact everyone. The Space Battleship Yamato heads back into action. But this time, it shall not return, and much of the Yamato crew have signed on for their last voyage.
